Cultivating a decent and inclusive working environment

PEOPLE    3 November 2016

Our business future direction complements Goal 8 in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all. As a responsible employer, we create quality jobs by cultivating a decent working environment, taking care of our people’s well-being as well as formulating well-planned career advancement and development. We also prioritise local talent and treat every employee equally as our part to empower society by mitigating damage to the environment and stimulate the economy at the same time. With YTL Corporation selected as one of the Top 75 Companies in Malaysia people would love to work for, we believe in the importance of the mentioned values in our workplace.

One of our latest initiatives, Women at YTL or W@Y corresponds to Goal 8 that aims for equity and inclusivity combined with Goal 5 to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. W@Y was championed by one of our employees, Jilian Quah, and besides empowering our female employees to succeed in their careers, W@Y is also a platform to encourage women’s representation in daily life decisions. In addition, we actively encourage more female employees to work in male-dominant industries and to reduce the gender pay gap.

On a side note, initiatives like W@Y are one of the many examples that demonstrate the openness of YTL towards suggestions from employees, and sometimes even help to make dreams come true. This year, another employee of ours, Alice Yee also had the chance to hold her very first solo artwork exhibition in support from YTL Land and Development in the Sentul East Design Centre (SEED) located at d6 and d7, Sentul East, Kuala Lumpur. We understand that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right in a decent working environment, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
